Zanskar - part 2

A journey down the Grand Canyon of Asia, the Zanskar River. After running this last year solo, it was the perfect expedition for the two of us. So off we went down this amazing canyon for 4 days of river running..

The canyon is absolutely unreal, with the river running its highest for some considerable time we had big waves to hit, a couple of holes to avoid and some interesting boils....

The river was pretty chilly but with the right equipment the temperature of the water becomes bearable! Check out my new Peak UK Creeker suit, toasty!!

With a road well under way (it only has the middle part to go) there is not much time to run this river without the horns of trucks or even trucks that could be falling into the Canyon!!

Rumour has it they want to eventually dam the Zanskar (pretty much like all of their rivers here in India), so now is the time!!!

More to follow........

Zanskar Gorge Part 1 - the drive in...

The Zanskar Gorge...
This time we took a bus over passes of 4500m, braved the switchback roads, sun, cold at night to get to one of the most spectacular canyons on earth! Check out a few of the photos from the drive in........

We got a safe passage of travel from a local Buddhist Lama and also a Hindi ceremony was performed by our local Peak UK representative!!!!
A 3 day drive from Leh in Ladakh into Kashmir, just only 15km from the Pakistan border where we finally got back into Ladakh and to Padum, the gateway to the Zanskar.
Stay tuned for the river part in a few days....
Life is good, Ute and myself are now off to Aquaterra's camp on the Upper Ganges.
Stay safe
Steve
