We were now back in Santiago waiting for Will Young to arrive for 3 weeks of kayaking, road tripping and adventures in Chile. After a fantastic season in Austria this was our first of 2 Adventure Kayaking Trips had here in Chile.
It was a 8 hour blast down the Ruta 5 or the Pan American Highway to Pucon, the adventure capitol of Chile and a kayaking mecca! It has been some 7 years since I made a flying trip to Chile and for Ute some 13 years!
So with more time on our hands we decided to head out at the end of October to get some Spring kayaking Chilean style!
We first made a quick stop to catch up with Nelson and Tami in the Cajon del Maipo near Santiago.

The days were starting to get shorter but there was no let up in the weather! The sun was still out and though the mornings were a little chilly the days on the river were still sunny and warm!
Our kayaking courses were keeping us nice and busy with everything from Beginners
Through to Class 2 Improver Courses
and our Class 3-4 courses on Rivers such as the Sanna Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-18351803949751201452016-11-18T17:12:00.004+01:002016-11-18T17:12:30.119+01:00A Summer in Austria - part 2...
Here is the second part of our Summer in Austria....
It has been an extremely busy time with all sorts of courses running and of course in the height of the Austrian summer the Alps are just stunning!
Whether it is from our beginners courses up on a quiet mountain lake and the River Lech..

We had some fantastic water levels here in Austria at the start of Summer, the sun was out and the temperature was finally rising.
The Landeck Gorge was pumping and the Loisach in Bavaria also had a good level.
The Rosanna is our home river and it just kept on giving and with a sweet spot to learn how to creek the days were spent boofing, flaring and getting used to the steeper Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-8741779490062228092016-08-03T22:55:00.000+02:002016-08-03T22:55:34.193+02:00Spring in Austria - part 2...
This is the second part of our Spring photos from here in Austria.
Our home river - the Rosanna was at fantastic levels throughout the Spring. We had plenty of snow fall in the mountains throughout May and June to top off a very late Winter.
Ziv and Ayelet came for the first time in the Spring and they were not disappointed. With plenty of action to be had on the Rosanna Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-84500835955525915372016-07-27T21:13:00.000+02:002016-07-27T21:13:12.023+02:00Early Spring in Austria...
It has been a while since I have put something onto the Kayak School Arlberg's blog. We have been absolutely full on and with some of the biggest levels we have kayaked on our local rivers any rest day has been spent running steep creeks and some HUGE whitewater. Here is the first part of the season so far.......
It was a late Winter this year in the Tirol Region of Austria. &Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-6392569488503226922016-06-09T21:57:00.002+02:002016-06-09T21:57:45.267+02:00Early Spring and a trip to Slovenia..
Ute and I headed from our home in Austria to the Soca River in Slovenia for a few days of testing kayaks and of course with a fresh delivery of our kit from Peak UK this coming season it would be an ideal opportunity to show off our new colours!!
The Soca Valley is a great place with friendly locals, good food and cheap coffee!! We have been coming here since 1999 and Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-19921173592845264992016-05-10T18:26:00.001+02:002016-05-10T18:26:38.535+02:00Alaknanda River - Incredible India
With the International yoga festival in full swing in Rishikesh, I had extreme difficulties finding a place to stay. So instead of treating myself to the standard veggie burger and chips at the tourist restaurants I headed upstream and spent the night at Aquaterra’s forest camp!
The following day was another travel day as we headed upstream of the Ganges, past the holy place of Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-59649360701274973272016-04-25T16:48:00.002+02:002016-04-25T16:48:58.485+02:00Lower Tons - India......
After surviving some serious rock falls on the drive up to Purola it was a relatively quiet drive over to the Tons Valley. The weather had not broken and when the clouds did disperse from the valley we could see fresh snow up on the mountain tops. We finally got to the border town of Tiuni after drinking a fair few warm, sweet chai’s along the way. It was time to make a move, the Winter was a bit of a disappointment and with the process of getting a visa to India becoming easier I decided to go kayaking in the Indian Himalayas for a month!
Landing at New Delhi airport in the middle of the night does have its advantages. Cusco is at 3300m so it was a bit of a shock to the system when I first arrived. Especially when local kayaker Noel picked me up and I had to climb a bunch of stairs to get to his flat! However the acclimatisation was going well and as my kayak had finally arrived we could head to the Urubamba River and drop some altitude!!
We got stuck in the village of Urubamba for a Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-76584782194638354802015-10-20T10:24:00.002+02:002015-10-20T10:24:55.845+02:00A Summer of kayaking with Kayak School Arlberg in and around the Austrian Alps - Part 2
Again, I cannot emphasise just how good the Summer has been....

It has been a phenomenal 2015 season here at the Kayak School in Austria.
The Summer has been unbelievable and one of the hottest and longest since we can remember.
From Beginner Kayaking Courses up on the mountain lake with stunning views of hanging glaciers
through to working on our Improver Courses and developing the fundamental skills of kayaking on the River Lech, Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-32339283328768639612015-07-14T22:13:00.001+02:002015-07-14T22:13:36.836+02:00The start of Summer.....
The start of Summer got off to a bang!
The sun was out and the snow was melting fast and feeding the rivers .
The Loisach is such a great little paddle and with optimum water levels it is a dream!
Andrea took her first strokes in a kayak up on the mountain lake and it was the final part of the festival season with torches or lanterns getting lit in the mountains.

March was unbelievably warm, it seemed as though we had sunshine and blue skies for ages.
It was a great send off as we packed the van, put prayer flags on DJ and headed to Slovenia.

The last part of our journey in the Indian Himalayas
We set off early from Manali trying to get a head start on the 12 hour journey to Rishikesh. We got stopped in the Kullu Valley by the Police on a drugs check, but after we told them that we were kayakers and the rivers we had paddled they realised that we were crazy enough and sent us on our way.

It has been a while since I wrote the first piece our Enfield Tour in the stunning state of Himachal Pradesh.
I hope it was worth the wait - the adventure on our Enfield Bullet continues.....
We had now arrived at the top of the Kinnaur Valley and the headwaters of the Sutlej River. Well, it has been a while but finally here is a piece about our trip around the Spiti and Kinnaur Valleys on our Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle...
The Rohtang Pass had long lost its snow on the road and there was just a thin covering on the north side of the pass. The weather for the end of October was looking stable but cold with an exception that on the first day we Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-1097269925803069002014-11-04T07:03:00.000+01:002014-11-04T07:03:00.173+01:00…then try again!!
Chamba and the River Ravi
After the early snowfall in the Lahaul Valley we decided to head further West from Manali and over to the Chamba Valley. The journey was an eye opener in itself, the green Himalayan foothills provide some stunning scenery but it is the endless valleys and ridges you have to go in and out, up and over with the faint chance to getting some tarmac to sooth the Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2652161932024424031.post-7480989121408064482014-11-02T08:38:00.000+01:002014-11-02T08:38:02.984+01:00Erstens kommt es anders, zweitens als man denkt….
Gut angekommen in Manali freuten wir uns auf einen Monat kajaken, ausrasten und mit unserer Enfield Bullet die Gegend zu erkunden.

We arrived in Manali looking forward to a month of kayaking, chilling and of course riding our Enfield Bullet around the valley.
We were back in the Tourist Hotel, our home from home you could say! The flowers were out and our terrace was an array of red, orange and yellow. The Thakur family put a huge effort into making the garden really warm and welcoming.

After a spring roll dripping in grease and fat from Padum we managed to slide ourselves back into our kayaks and head on down.
