Nepal 2011 - Part 1

It has been close to 2 weeks now since Ute and myself landed in Nepal.

↑ Looking out over Kathmandu

↑ Monkey Temple (Swayambhu)

After a few days in Kathmandu taking in the atmosphere, surroundings and a few sights we headed down to the Trishuli River to meet up with an old friend Ram and his new family.

↑ RBC on the Trishuli

The River was warm and even clean!  The colour changed from either a jungle green to a dark brown soup after some heavy thunderstorms.  There was plenty of action running some sweet lines through and around big holes and with a couple of waves going off, we were enjoying what the Trishuli had to offer!

In between running the Trishuli, Steve worked safety kayaking on the Marsyangdi while Ute was safety boating for some huge Nepali groups down for a weekend of rafting and camping out!

It was time to head back to Kathmandu and up to Equator Expeditions Sukute Camp.  We were last in Sukute when it was being constructed.  At that time there was no real kitchen so Nepali Dhal Bhaat was on the menu twice a day, everyday!

Though the river was low, we managed to paddle the Bhote Koshi and just spent a day relaxing and charging the batteries!

↑ Equator Expeditions Sukute Camp

Sukute Camp has been transformed since we were last there in 1999.  The trees are huge, flowers were blooming over the tents, fruit trees galore and even a couple of Buddhist Stupas in the camp!

With all the surrounding rivers low, we are heading back to the Trishuli for a few days and then it is off to the Karnali, the longest river in Nepal.
Here is to some big warm water boating, life is good!!

New Website for the Kayak School

After a fair few hours in front of the Mac the Kayak School website is up and running.  With details of our latest courses for all abilities, guiding and adventures in foreign lands we hope there is something for everyone.  With the season not too far away we are heading to Nepal to get warmed up and paddle fit.

We hope to see you in the summer on any one of the classic rivers in our area of Austria.
Stay safe and here is to a great 2011 of kayaking.
